Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded to a server?▾
No. The crop and export both happen in your browser using the canvas API. Your file never leaves your device, which is also why there's no file-size limit tied to an upload.
How is this different from a generic image cropper?▾
The presets are print sizes — 4×6, 8×10, 11×14, 24×36, A4, A3 — instead of Instagram or YouTube crops. You also get a live DPI/sharpness readout for your chosen print size, so you know before you print whether the crop will look sharp.
What does the sharpness readout mean?▾
It's the effective resolution (pixels per inch) of your crop at the print size you selected — the same math used by our print resolution checker. 300 DPI and up prints sharp at any viewing distance; below about 150 DPI, expect softness on a close-up framed print.
Can I crop without a fixed aspect ratio?▾
Yes — choose "Freeform" from the preset list to crop to any shape. The sharpness estimate is only shown for a fixed print-size preset, since freeform has no target physical size.
What file formats can I export?▾
PNG (lossless, larger file) or JPEG (smaller, slight compression). PNG is generally the better choice for printing.
