Every Etsy sale pays three fees: a listing fee, a transaction fee and a payment processing fee. Some sales pay more, depending on where your bank account is and how the buyer found you.

A UK seller who sells a £20 print with £4 shipping and has no VAT ID pays £3.59 in fees, including the 0.48% regulatory fee and £0.60 of VAT on Etsy's fees. That is 15% of the order.
Etsy fees on digital downloads
Digital art prints have no shipping or printing cost, so the fees are your only cost per sale. The catch is the fixed part: $0.20 to list and $0.25 to process, whatever the price. On a $5.00 file that is 18.8% gone before you count anything else. Bundling several sizes or designs into one higher-priced listing is the simplest fix, because the fixed fees are paid once.

Print-on-demand profit on Etsy
With Printful, Printify or Gelato you pay the provider's base price and shipping for every order, and Etsy charges its fees on your full selling price. On the $34.00 poster above, Etsy takes $3.75 and you keep $11.25. One sale through Offsite Ads costs another $5.10, which cuts that profit roughly in half. Provider prices change often, so enter the numbers from your own provider's price list.
Selling original art on Etsy
Percentage fees grow with the price, so a $400.00 painting pays far more in fees than a print. Two things help. Offsite Ads are capped at 100 USD per order, so the fee stops growing once an order passes about $667.00. And original art mode counts your hours, so you can see what you really earn per hour after fees, materials and shipping.

How to lower your Etsy fees
- Opt out of Offsite Ads while your shop is under 10,000 USD a year. Above that it becomes mandatory at 12%.
- List in the same currency as your bank account to skip the 2.5% conversion fee.
- Avoid very low prices. In the US the fixed $0.45 per sale hurts most under $10.
- Bundle digital files and offer several sizes in one listing instead of one listing per size.
- If you are VAT registered, add your VAT ID in Etsy so you are not charged VAT on fees.

The same as for physical items: $0.20 listing fee per sale, 6.5% transaction fee and payment processing. Because the $0.20 and $0.25 are fixed, cheap files lose a large share. A $5.00 file loses about 18.8% to fees, while a $15.00 bundle loses about 12.7%.

It is an extra percentage of the item price and shipping that Etsy charges sellers in 9 countries to cover local regulation costs. The current rates are Hungary 1.97%, Türkiye 1.67%, Vietnam 1.24%, France 1.14%, Spain 0.88%, Italy 0.8%, Canada 0.5%, United Kingdom 0.48%, India 0.05%.
How do Etsy Offsite Ads fees work?▾
When a buyer clicks an Etsy ad on another site and buys from your shop within 30 days, Etsy charges 15% of the order, or 12% once your shop has sold 10,000 USD in a year. Shops under 10,000 USD can opt out. The fee is capped at 100 USD per order, which matters for orders over about $667.00.
Does Etsy charge fees on sales tax?▾
The transaction fee is not charged on US sales tax, but the payment processing fee is. Etsy charges processing on the total the buyer pays, including tax. That is why this calculator asks for a sales tax rate and uses 7% by default for US sellers.
Do I pay VAT on Etsy fees?▾
Sellers in the UK, the EU and several other countries are charged VAT on their Etsy fees unless they have given Etsy a VAT ID. In Ireland, Switzerland, Mexico, Japan, South Africa and a few other countries Etsy charges it either way. Tick the VAT box in the calculator to include it.
How can I lower my Etsy fees?▾
Opt out of Offsite Ads while you are under 10,000 USD in yearly sales, list in the same currency as your bank account to avoid the 2.5% conversion fee, avoid very low prices where the fixed fees eat most of the sale, and bundle small digital files into one listing.
